Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Macedonian Microbiological Society, I have the honor and pleasure to invite you to the Virological Symposium entitled “The Meeting of Old and New Viruses at the Crossroads of Time”, which will be held in the period 17 – 19 April 2026 at the Hilton Hotel, Skopje.
Throughout history, viruses have shaped human health, societies, and scientific progress. Some of them are well known to us – old “acquaintances” that continue to challenge the public health system, while others are new, i.e. appearing for the first time, evolving rapidly and reminding us of the dynamic nature of the microbial world.
The symposium will be dedicated to the meeting point of already established viral pathogens with newly identified or re-emerging ones; where classical virology meets modern molecular technologies; and where past experiences inform future preparedness. By looking back at lessons learned and forward to innovations yet to come, we aim to deepen our understanding and strengthen our collective response to viral threats.
The symposium is intended for microbiologists, as well as all other specialties involved in human and veterinary medicine who encounter viral infections daily in their routine work. We will hear about the experiences of prominent experts, and exchange ideas that bridge disciplines, generations, and perspectives. Such dialogue is essential—not only for advancing science, but also for translating knowledge into effective prevention, diagnosis, therapy and control strategies.
We look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely
Prof. Dr. Golubinka Boshevska,
President of MMS
